The Golden Group is over. Can a new group step up? Two years ago, Kevin De Bruyne plunged Belgium’s Euro 2024 plans into disorder when he claimed the team was “too old” to win in an interview with The Protector. That Belgian squad had 10 players over 30 and the maximum average age of any Euro Cup 2024 team at the competition. A group-stage exit and just one goal at the World Cup put Belgium on course for a restructure.

Coach Domenico Tedesco has managed a tactical shakeup and a regular exit for some of the oldest players. Experienced bests remain, not least the 37-year-old Jan Vertonghen in defense, the 32-year-old De Bruyne himself in midfield, and 31-year-old Romelu Lukaku up visible.
Still, younger actors like De Bruyne’s Manchester City partner Jeremy Doku bring fresh vitality to the team. Euro Cup Germany Qualifying unbeaten with just four goals allowed from eight games was a welcome sign of accomplishment back on track under Tedesco.
The only other squad in Group E besides Belgium to UEFA Euro 2024 qualify unbeaten, Romania was awestruck by winning a group that also checked Switzerland and Israel. Still, Euro 2024 will test a squad sorely lacking in top-level skill.

1. In the past, we have had many
different systems for maintaining
our schedules, tournament
availability, and for coaches
ratings. Now the WIAA is taking
this back into their hands again.
Beginning in the upcoming 2015-
2016 season, the WIAA will be
bringing this back “in-house.”
Going away will be the system(s)
of the past, first being RefRanking,
and now Athletix.
Please reference the information on
the WIAA website and this email
from Joan Gralla regarding the
change:
Beginning with the 2015-16 school
year the WIAA will no longer be
using the services of Athletix. We
are developing our own system to
gather varsity schedules from
officials, rank officials and obtain
tournament availabilities to make
assignments. Athletix has been a
great partner with the WIAA over
the past year but we feel that it is
time we bring these processes back
in-house.
What this means for officials --
Officials will need to enter into our
system on the WIAA website their
varsity schedule. Officials that are
tournament eligible will complete
tournament availabilities through
the WIAA website.
What this means for coaches –
Head coaches will go to the WIAA
website to perform rankings of
officials.
Complete details and instructions
will be provided, prior to the start
of the 2015-16 school year.
Please note that Athletix will still
be available for officials and
assignors for regular season
assigning purposes.
Yes this will be yet another system
that we have to keep up-to
-date. But this is
something that, if we want
to keep advancing and
receiving this limited
feedback, we will need to
do.
Please continue to keep your
schedules up to date in both
Athletix and this new system, and
on the MCSOA website.
Steve Matuszewski has stated the
WiHSOC will continue to use
Athletix until the WIAA platform
is out so they can see the
capabilities that can be used on
their end. More information will
come on that for sure.
In the meantime, continue as we
have been. Both the MCSOA and
Athletix sites are used by
conference commissioners,
association game assignors, and
athletic directors.
If you want to work, make yourself
available and keep these up to date.

Continued Education
Our profession is just like any other.
Educational opportunities are available to all
sports officials in many different ways. We can
go to camps, read education material, purchase
books/videos, and the list goes on and on.
So where do we get some of this information?
The answer is simple...the Internet. Here are
links to some locations where you can purchase
equipment, see videos, and search camps. The
resources are abundant. It is up to us as
officials to search them out to hone our skills.
If you put the time in, you will get better. No
doubt.

Do you like working with kids? Of course
you do!! Again, that is why we officiate!!
Do you like being active and getting the
exercise? Yes….probably a reason some

How many sports do you officiate? Have
you ever thought of adding another to your
load?
We are currently in need of officials in
many sports. Basketball seems to be the one
everybody wants to start in. We tend to
forget about the other sports. Our
association is only getting old and each year
we lose more members from various sports
for various reason, and the numbers are not

3. Our association has been great working
with Special Olympics over the years.
Lets continue this tradition!!
August 22nd @ Neenah—this is a
tentative date. Special Olympic
Athletes will be competing against
various Police Department members.
August 29th @ Manitowoc—this is
also a tentative date. Last year games
were played at Manitowoc Lutheran
High School
October 3rd @ Neenah—This is a set
date. The Special Olympics Wisconsin
State Tournament.
Don’t forget, it is that time of the year again
to make sure we register with the WIAA.
You have two options for renewal again this
year. Go to the WIAA website and register
online or you can print out an application
and mail via US Mail.
Please remember to have your renewal done
by June 5th to avoid the late fee penalty.
Beginning this year, MCSOA will be taking
the same approach. If you are planning on
keeping your membership in the
association, dues must be paid by June 1.
If dues/communication is not received by
June 1, your name will be removed from
our rosters and communications.
We provide many opportunities for our
members, so participation in all aspects of
the association is vital. Please respond to
emails promptly so we can have the most
up to date records on our website.
Thanks for your help in this!!

Squat
Squats are a total lower body exercise
hitting the gluteus maximus, quadriceps,
hamstring, and calve muscles.
Feet should be shoulder width apart.
Concentrate on having your chest up and
knees over your toes.
So much of what we do involves running,
sprinting, and many quick movements. We
have discussed many different warm up
exercises including stretching, but what else
can we do? Weight training of course!!
Our lower body is so vital in what we do on
and off the field. For strength and
endurance, we should do some strength
training exercises as well. Try to perform
2-3 sets of each exercise. Your sets should
be 15-20 repetitions. Give it a try! See how
your legs feel. Do you have more energy? I
bet you do!
Calve Raises
Using a piece of wood or a stair, place the
ball of your foot on the edge. Let your heel
touch the ground. Extend onto your tip toes
and hold for 2-3 seconds.
Resist the weight as you go down. Go down
until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
Don’t have a small dumbbell set? Find some
household items (solar salt bag, gallon of
milk, etc.) to raise your “weight.”
