2. Engineered for Productivity
MX Series tractors are engineered to provide
smooth, reliable performance under any field conditions.
By moving the engine forward, lengthening the wheel-
base, and improving weight distribution with a heavy,
one-piece cast-iron frame, both stability and weight
distribution have been greatly improved.
The new Mechanical Front Drive offers a heavy-duty
lube-for-life driveline and a 55 degree turning angle for
greater maneuverability and the best turning radius in
its class. And the new 2WD front axle is the same heavy
duty axle found on MAGNUM tractors.
Standard turbocharged 5.9 L, 6 cylinder diesel engines
deliver up to 44% torque rise and are isomounted to
isolate vibration and noise from the all-new cab.
Case IH Pressure-Flow Compensated (PFC)
hydraulics, with 47% more hydraulic flow and
28.9 GPM pump, sense hydraulic requirements, then
match the exact flow needed for the load to minimize
power requirements and stress on the system.
MX Series tractors also maximize your productivity in
even the toughest situations with a choice of rugged,
standard 16-speed synchronized, powershift or
32-speed creeper transmissions.

The compact, non-structural engine
design is solely dedicated to providing
raw agricultural power. The engine
contains up to 40% fewer parts than
competitive engines. Components such
as the oil and water pump housing, oil
cooler housing, oil filter and alternator
mounting are all cast into the block This
adds strength and eliminates parts such
as gaskets, resulting in greater
performance and reliability.
The air intake port is designed for
efficient air mixing, which is required for
optimum combustion and top fuel
efficiency. A short exhaust port quickly
expels heat. This improves turbocharger
efficiency, extends service intervals and
prolongs engine life.
Engine valve covers are
individually a-ring sealed to
prevent oil leakage at the
valve cover area due to engine
temperature fluctuation.
Intake and exhaust manifolds are
located on opposite sides of the
engine head to greatly improve
engine efficiency by creating a
natural cross-flow air pattern.
5 hole Bosch injectors provide
increased fuel atomization for full
power and better fuel economy.
An alternating valve design keeps
the engine operating cooler and
more efficiently. And valves
rotate automatically, eliminating
mechanical rotators for design simplicity.
Seven large diameter main bearings provide excellent load
carrying capacity.
Turbochargers are specially designed for these engines. As
a result, Case engines are more fuel efficient and capable
of delivering higher horsepower with less engine stress.
A slide-out oil cooler and air conditioner condenser allows
for easier cleaning of the oil cooler, air conditioner and radiator.
A double-shrouded water pump impeller
increases the system's ability to with-
stand adverse conditions while reducing
the potential for a vapor pocket to entrap
air. For greater reliability, the water pump
uses an a-ring seal instead of a gasket.
A POL Y-VEE fan belt extends belt life up to three times
that of conventional belts. This single belt does the
job of several belts on other diesels, simplifying
maintenance and improving reliability. An
automatic belt tensioner minimizes wear and
prevents slippage, which is a cornman cause of
engine overheating.
Built-in piston oil cooling sprays oil from the crankshaft to
the bottom of the piston for outstanding lubrication and cooling.

Case IH tractors are known for. By casting components
into the block, the new engines have up to 40% fewer
parts than competitive engines.
The special new, lube-for-life joints on the drive shaft,
between the engine and the transmission, eliminate greas-
ing and extend the life span of your investment. And a
new, aspirated exhaust draws dirt out of the
air cleaner and eliminates it from the sys-
tem through the exhaust.
The :MXSeries Mechanical Front Drive
has been redesigned to serve you better. A
totally new front axle lets you mount larger
diameter front tires to decrease ground
pressure and increase clearance. The optional
new MFD, in heavier housing, automatically
sends power to the front axle to help pull you
through rough areas in the field. And the
improved, 55 degree turning angle adds
maneuverability to improve productivity.
A new temperature-controlled viscous fan
increases fuel efficiency and cooling, while
decreasing noise.
The new MAXXUM :MXSeries tractors have been
improved from the bottom up. Narrower, cast iron side rail
frames improve the strength, turning radius with larger
front tires, and stability of the new line. And engines
mounted using isomount technology, reduce vibration and
noise, making MAXXUM tractors even quieter and more
comfortable.
'Ib improve weight transfer and increase
stability, the engine has been moved for-
ward 10.77" (273.5 mm) on the frame. The
6.4% longer wheelbase provides better
weight distribution and improved handling
under heavy loads. Better stability lets you
work with fewer front weights and improves
fuel efficiency,while reducing compaction.
Modern design, turbocharged, 5.9 liter,
6 cylinder, 359 cubic inch diesel engines give
you the power you need, when you need it.
The :MXSeries still has the same deep
torque reserves and fuel efficiency
A sleeveless, integral bore engine has no
cylinder liners to replace. This eliminates
cylinder sleeve leakage and minimizes
cavitation erosion. This durable design
features less bore distortion and better oil
control for longer life. Cylinders are honed
to size, then receive a second plateau
honing to remove the sharp peaks from the
cylinder wall. This results in reduced friction
and better sealing.
6. Reversible 54011000 rpm PTO shaft.

lubricated for longer life and cooling.
Designed For Performance
Case IH offers a range of durable transmission options
designed to maximize performance. With 125 million
hours of field-proven reliability, MAXXUM powershift and
synchromesh transmissions will stand up to your tough-
est demands. Uniquely designed for efficiency and
strength, these transmissions fit the way you farm.
With a power flow similar to that of the synchronized
transmission, the powershift transmission is driven by a
constant velocity shaft, with lube-for-life U-joints, which
connects the engine to the transmission.
Input power passes into the selected powershift speed
transmission clutch pack, through the optional speed
gears, to the forward and reverse (FIR) clutch packs.
From the FIR clutch packs, the power is taken to the rear
differential through the selected range transmission gear.
Power is also directed forward, through a set of drop
gears, to the MFD clutch pack. Power flow continues for-
ward out of the transmission to the MFD axle when the
clutch pack is engaged.

The independent live PTO picks up its drive from the
constant mesh speed transmission clutch pack gears.
Power then flows rearward to the PTO clutch pack. This
shaft is also the drive for the hydraulic pump prior to
going into the PTO clutch pack. Power flows through the
clutch pack, when engaged, out the rear of the tractor via
the reversible 540/1000 rpm PTO shaft.
All clutches are oil lubricated and cooled by a high flow
oil to ensure reliable performance and long clutch life.
The direction of travel may be engaged by flipping the
power shuttle lever from neutral to forward or reverse.
The power shuttle lever is mounted on the steering
column for high productivity and operator comfort.
This well proven design adds up to a more durable,
longer life transmission to meet the everyday demands
of feedlot operations and the transmission speeds required
of fieldwork applications.
