Psychology Relation with Mass media
• Psychology in Advertising
• To target an audience they used different psychological
techniques.
• Use of different appeals that are connected with life of an
individual.
• Marketing strategies works behind that.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
• Psychological effects of T.V programs & Cinema.
• Addiction of watching programmers.
• They feel like story of their own. Imagine and replace
character with themselves.
• Consider actor or actresses as god. Act like them. Lives in
illusion .
• Learn so many bad and good things from that.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
Psychological effects of mass media
• Our society is so heavily engraved in the media that it is
almost unavoidable. As of today there are so many different
forms of media that it is absolutely necessary to use it in
order to receive information regarding a variety of things.
Although there are benefits to using social media it has
become increasingly evident through research that there are
more negative characteristics about the media than there are
positive.

The Effects, Good And Bad, In Media Psychology
• People are getting smarter due to the assisted learning and
the interactive elements that the media, especially video
games, play into
• The nexus between learning and the media is growing, and
we are getting new and more informative means to learn
• It allows for people to understand crucial elements of this
• it's improved communication among many people and
different cultures
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
Bad Effects
• Due to the exposure to so much and such fast-paced media,
our attention spans are decreasing. For example, if you think
about the latest news, we may react to it every so often, and
the reactions may last a couple of days, but then people
forget about it. However, it's also started to create a lot more
cases of ADD in research, especially with such exposure to so
much media stimulation.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
• The violence in the media has caused people to become
desensitized to violence, and it also may facilitate various
sexual acts. Violence becomes a contagion via observational
learning, and the agreement socially, which is what media
does.
• Sleep time has decreased because people spend more time
with media than sleeping.
• Internet addiction disorder and other media issues have
come about as a result of this.
• Psychological effects of Social

Why people post and consume social media
• Physiological needs: People sometimes post to benefit the
health or well-being of their friends and family.
• Safety: Physical, mental, and financial security are important
for people when they choose to post some material on their
social media.
• Love/belonging: Users generally want to post to feel some
kind of social acceptance from a group or a particular
individual.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
• Esteem: People want to quell the rewards-oriented parts of
their brains, which helps explain why people post “me-
centric” content regularly.
• Self-actualization: As the most important facet of the human
needs hierarchy, this aspect of social media posting manifests
when people share their successes – getting a new job,
completing an arduous project, or graduating from school, to
name a few examples.

How does media effects your emotions
• Encourages addictive behavior
• It helps to boost your mood (in the short term)
• It can cause FOMO
• It increases your awareness
• It can inhibit your sleep patterns
• In the long-term, it can lower your mood
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
Encourages addictive behavior
• People who are over-dependent on digital devices report
feelings of anxiety when they are stopped from using them,
but now we can see that these psychological effects are
accompanied by actual physiological changes.

FMO
• FOMO, or the fear of missing out, is one of the leading factors
that drive social media behaviors and addictions, and it can have
a sizable impact on our mood too! You see, social media is great
for staying connected with other people but it also allows you to
create an image of yourself that might not necessarily match up
to reality. You might scroll through your Facebook and Instagram
feed jealously admiring holiday photos, night-out selfies and
other achievements and wonder why everyone else seems to be
living such fascinating and interesting lives apart from you?
• This can then make you feel as though you’re missing out, as
though your life isn’t as satisfying as everyone else’s.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
It increases your awareness
• Social media may affect your mood but it also, undeniably, makes
you more aware of what is going on in the world around you and
allows you to interact with larger issues. You can make your
opinion heard on subjects that you are passionate about, plus
you can even get involved in charitable events and start-ups. It
also allows you to connect to people who are interested in these
problems and events too, giving you access to a wider community
that you may not have close by. In this way social media can
actually be a good thing, encouraging and bolstering your
confidence whilst giving you the chance to be more proactive.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
It can inhibit your sleep patterns
• Unfortunately, most of us who use social media have found
ourselves scrolling when we should be sleeping. A 2017 study of
over 1,700 young adults found that those who used social media
in the 30 minutes before bed were more likely to experience poor
sleep.3
• This could be because of the stimulus that social media apps
provide but it could also be linked with the blue light waves
emitted from their phone screens – these blue light waves can
actually inhibit your production of the sleep hormone melatonin,
making you feel more awake and alert.
M.MujeebRiaz _M.Mujeeb Riaz
In the long-term, it can lower your mood
• Social media might give your mood a boost in the short-term,
but research has found that with greater usage, over time,
comes greater consequences for our mental health. It has
been already mentioned a few of the factors that could lower
your mood – FOMO, poor sleep and obsessive behaviours –
but wider research has also tackled this issue and the results
have been worrying. One study, published in the Journal of
Social and Clinical Psychology, found that there was a causal
link between social media use and depression.
