RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

OVERVIEW
• 4 day cycling challenge
• Cross the channel from
Dover to Calais
• Cycle through pretty French
villages
• Finish in Paris at the foot of
the Eiffel Tower

• Early wake up and breakfast
• Warm-up and briefing
• Stop every 15 – 20 km for
water / snack breaks
• 1 – 1½ hour lunch
• Dinner and evening briefing
for the next days’ cycling

• UK: Mixture of flat,
undulating and hilly
terrain
• France: generally uphill;
gently undulating

YOUR BIKE
• Bring your own bike – ensure it is fully insured
• Must be road worthy – have it serviced
• You must wear a cycling helmet
• Mountain bike – fit slick (smooth) tyres

• Challenging bike ride – you will
need to train
• Follow the training guidelines
provided
• Start slowly & build up stamina
• Include hilly terrain
With training, you’ll enjoy the bike ride and achieve the
challenge!

Day One: London – Dover, approx. 118 km
• Set off from Bexley in South East
London
• After 16 miles the surroundings
become less congested and more
rural
• Reach Dover and board the ferry to
Calais with dinner on board
• Coach transfer to the hotel inDieppe
(approx. 2 ½ hours)
ITINERARY

Day Two: Dieppe – Gournay en Bray, approx. 88 km
• Leave Dieppe and pass through
typical French villages
• Cycle through Saint Saens with
its pretty central square and
church
• Stop for lunch at St Martin
Osmonville
• Continue through sleepy
villages along quiet roads
• There will be a few uphill
sections – some longer and
more challenging than others
• Overnight in Gournay en Bray

Day Three: Gournay en Bray – Eiffel Tower, Paris approx. 107 km
• Most challenging day – mainly
undulating with some short climbs
• Enter the heart of the city via the
famous Bois de Boulogne
• Cycle along the wide Parisian
boulevards towards our final
destination
• Cross the Seine to finish beneath
the Eiffel Tower
• Tonight we enjoy a celebratory
meal and toast our achievement
with a well-deserved glass of vin

• Free morning to relax in Paris,
exploring Notre Dame, the
Champs Elysées, Arc de
Triomphe, Montmartre, Sacré
Coeur, Musée d’Orsay….
• Opportunity to see The Tour de
France!
• Coach to Eurostar early
evening
• Free morning in Paris
• Coach transfer to Eurostar late
morning
Day Four: Paris – London
For those staying Sunday night

Watching the Tour de France
• Finish Line: Champs Elysees, more or
less next to Avenue Dutuit (0.2 miles
from Place de la Concorde)
• Best Viewing Spot: anywhere along
the finishing circuit!
• Top Tip: The whole Champs Elysees
will be busy – the bends are best
• Taxi numbers will be given on
information cards during the event
• Sunday Return: Coach to Eurostar
departing from hotel at 7pm
• Monday Return: Coach to Eurostar
departing from hotel at 11am

CURRENCY & SPENDING MONEY
Euro: £1 = €1.20 approx. (April 2014)
