• Carry out scene surveys to establish access, egress and the first stage of

arriving at a professional diagnosis
• Based upon the provisional diagnosis, accurately define the transport
priority of patients and formulae a priority based treatment plan
• Establish and maintain an open airway using basic methods and provide
adequate pulmonary ventilation
• Perform, to a high level competence, Basic Life Support for Adults,
Children and Infants
• Deal with partial and complete airway obstruction in the Adult, Child and
Infant
• Control External Hemorrhage

JOB DESCRIPTION
Emergency Medical Technician – Defibrillation (EMT-D)
• To monitor and assist in the off loading of patients brought by the
ambulance/private vehicles and assist in the transfer patients to the
Emergency Room Triage Area. For unstable patients, start initial
emergency assessment, initiate BLS interventions and immediately notify
the Emergency Physician.
• Assist the Emergency Physician in the overall patient assessment such as
collecting personal details, symptoms analysis of the patients primary
complaint by performing an objective survey or indicated and according to
the presenting subjective data which includes vital signs of all patients.
• Assist the Emergency Physician in providing immediate intervention in
strict accordance with the specified professional limitations as outline by
the Philippine Society of Emergency Medical Technician.
• Assist the Emergency Physician in escorting the severely ill/critical injured
patient to the acute care area or to other designated areas.
6. • Assist the Emergency Physician in carrying out the Primary and
Secondary Survey of patients according to life threatening conditions and
following the accepted protocols of Triage in the Emergency Department.
• Assist the Emergency Physician in establishing efficient patient flow with
the Emergency Department, continuing awareness of patients arriving and
maintaining crowd control in the Emergency Department Triage Area.
Additional Duties for Emergency Medical Technician-Defibrillation and
ACLS Certified.
• Can safely and effectively defibrillate cardiac arrest patient and function as
a member of the cardiac arrest team under the supervision of the
Emergency Physician.
• Using a cardiac monitor and be capable of recognizing Ventricular
Fibrillation and Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia.
• Can safely and effective operate a manual defibrillator.
• Can initiate post-resuscitation care for all patients.
