Quarry	Master	–	(	Tennessee	Geology	(Pink)	
	
Will	have	specific	knowledge	of	Marble	as	a	metamorphic	rock	that	forms	when	
limestone	is	subjected	to	the	heat	and	pressure	of	metamorphism.
Ideal	Candidate	Will	Have	Knowledge	of:	
Interpretation	and	analysis	of	how	marble	forms	at	convergent	plate	boundaries	where	
large	areas	of	Earth's	crust	are	exposed	to	regional	metamorphism	specifically	the	Holston	
Formation	of	Eastern,	TN.	Will	be	able	to	recognize	contact	metamorphism	when	a	hot	
magma	body	has	heated	adjacent	limestone	or	dolostone.
Will	have	knowledge	of	metamorphism,	the	calcite	in	the	limestone	is	often	in	the	form	of	
lithified	fossil	material	and	biological	debris	and	subsequent	shades,	streaks,	lines,	colors.		
Will	be	able	to	evaluate	and	forecast	metamorphism,	this	calcite	recrystallizes	and	the	
texture	of	the	rock	changes.		
	
Quarry	Master	
The	Quarry	Master/Project	Manager,	for	historic	marble	quarry	in	Tennessee.		The	
successful	candidate	must	have	the	‘hard’	skills	and	abilities	to:	
	
- Operate,	maintain	&	troubleshoot	state	of	the	art	Italian	quarry	equipment	
including;	Fantini	chain	saw,	Michelleti	and	Benetti	wire	saws,	Lochtman	drills,	
and	Meyers	belt	saws.	
- Operate,	maintain	&	troubleshoot	heavy	equipment,	including	track	hoes,	&	
loaders.	
- Determine	when/how	to	strategically	use	water	bags	to	move	ledges	to	
maximize	block	recovery	and	yield.	
	
The	successful	candidate	must	also	have	the	soft	skills	and	abilities	to:	
	
- Have	a	geological	understanding	of	the	‘marble	belt’	that	runs	through	East	
Tennessee	
- Be	able	to	develop	a	quarry	strategy	around	the	natural	cracks,	fissures,	bedding,	
and	color	changes	that	occur.		In	addition,	be	able	to	incorporate	the	results	of	
core	drill	data	and	complex	geological	maps	to	develop	micro	and	macro	quarry	
strategies.	
- Manage	and	train	a	quarry	staff	on	the	proper	operation	of	all	the	equipment	and	
to	understand	the	European	method	of	taking	down	‘walls’	in	the	quarrying	
process	
- Must	understand	the	uniqueness	of	being	the	only	operating	Tennessee	Pink	
quarry	in	the	world	and	the	idiosyncrasies	of	the	east/west	and	north/south	
movements	of	the	marble	‘belt’,	and	apply	their	experience	in	the	art	of	
understanding	the	mountain.	
	
Background	must	include	knowledge	of	geology,	management,	extensive	experience	in	
marble	quarries,	understanding	of	international	marble	markets,	and	all	applicable	laws	&	
regulations	associated	with	quarrying,	including	MSHA	compliance.
