Jesus sent out 72 disciples ahead of him to every town and place he planned to visit, telling them to pray for more workers since the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. He told them to travel lightly and greet anyone who welcomes them peaceably, staying and eating with them but moving to the next house if not welcomed. When they returned, they joyfully reported that even the demons submitted to them in Jesus' name, though Jesus cautioned that their true joy should be that their names are written in heaven rather than in gaining authority over demons.
