Luis Rodriguez is an award-winning Chicano poet and author who will be speaking at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro. Rodriguez grew up in a gang in East L.A. but was able to leave that life behind through his writing. However, when his son joined a gang, Rodriguez wrote his memoir Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A. to tell his own story and warn others about the dangers of gangs. Rodriguez uses dialogue, storytelling, poetry, and art to discuss important issues of race, class, and personal struggles. He is the author of several poetry collections and conducts workshops to share his experiences with others.
