The student has been deemed eligible to join the Iota Pi Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association, based on their academic performance in communication courses. As a member, the student would have opportunities to participate in community service, present at conferences, and gain early access to jobs and internships. To join, the student must fill out an application, pay a one-time $35 membership fee, and submit materials to the faculty advisor by January 15th.

1. Dear YSU Department of Communication Student:
On behalf of the Faculty and Staff in the Department of Communication at Youngstown
State University, it is my pleasure to inform you that based upon a recent audit of your
transcript, you are now eligible to become a member of the Department of
Communication’s Honor Society, the Iota Pi Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta! Your status
as a junior or senior, as well as your grade point average and credit hours in
Communication and Telecommunication courses were contributing factors in your
eligibility.
Lambda Pi Eta is the official Honor Society of the National Communication Association.
It is how we recognize our students who have excelled in the classroom. Lambda Pi Eta
also offers a professional development opportunity. Our members participate in
community service, occasionally may present scholarly papers at conferences, and
participate in a variety of departmental activities. Most importantly, Lambda Pi Eta
members will be given early access to job and internship opportunities that filter through
our department on a regular basis. Finally, our graduating members are recognized for
their service at the Department of Communication Annual Awards Banquet Spring
semester, at the “Senior Sendoff” that occurs at the end of Fall and Spring semesters, and
are given a special Honor Sash to be worn during graduation. These are just some of the
many benefits of active membership in Lambda Pi Eta.
If you are interested in joining, there are 3 steps you need to complete: 1). please fill out
the attached application for membership, 2). submit your one-time $35 membership fee
(Cash or make checks payable to YSU Lambda Pi Eta), 3). give it to Dr. Jeff Tyus, the
faculty advisor, in Room 2015 Bliss Hall or place it in a sealed envelope and leave it with
our Department Administrative Assistant, Deb Yiannaki, in room 2000 Bliss Hall.
Application and membership fees will be accepted up until Friday, January 15, 2016 at
