1. Brief Explanation of Concept and Theme

I have chosen pop culture as my concept, which was under the guidance of Ms. Norma.
Theme
(bod.y art)
The practice of decorating the body by means of tattooing, piercing, plastic surgery, etc.
After much consideration, I have chose the topic of body art to be my theme which my lecturer
agreed upon.

2. Research Sites
Sungei Wang
In Sungei Wang, I went around to approach various people of different backgrounds to
photograph their tattoos. I was able to make an appointment to ask tattooist from Tribal
Bodyworks and Tattoo Family if I could photograph them tattooing their clients.
In Tribal Bodyworks, Ling, one of the tattooists called me to come over to their parlor to
start documenting what I needed. In Tattoo Family, I met with Kelvin, the founder of the parlor,
who gave me the consent to take photographs of his tattoos as well as his sketches. Moreover, he
explained the importance cleanliness and safety in the tattoo world.
Around Pavilion
From Sungeiwang, I walked towards Pavilion. I was able to take pictures of tourists and
locals as it was during the weekends.
Sunway
In Sunway, during a night out with friends, I was able to take a few pictures of Mr. Kerry
Hart.
Hartamas
In Hartamas, at a private residence of Akang, whom I made an appointment with through
a friend, I was able to take photographs the process of tattooing. I was there twice to photograph
four of his clients who tattooed a portrait of Virgin Mary praying, an owl, a portrait of a weeping
Virgin Mary and finally a tribal design on the ankle on their body respectively.
