The Black Panther Party was founded in 1966 in Oakland, California by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton to advocate for black empowerment and fight against police brutality. While they claimed to be non-violent, the group often openly carried loaded weapons during police patrols. They gained national attention in 1967 for entering the California state capitol armed to protest gun control laws. Throughout the late 1960s, the Black Panthers engaged in armed conflicts with police which increased government surveillance and repression of the group through programs like COINTELPRO. By the early 1970s, most Black Panther chapters had been shut down or members had left due to internal purging and conflicts between leaders like Huey Newton and Eldridge Cle
Sheriff Jeffery Richwine discusses how technology is heavily relied upon by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. Officers use computers, radios, GPS, and radar guns in their patrol vehicles. Jailers have access to inmate information and surveillance through computer systems. The Sheriff can monitor the jail remotely through an app. Body cameras have benefits but also raise privacy concerns. Storage is a challenge but the cameras only save video manually triggered by officers. Canine officer vehicles have safety features to protect K-9s. Officers complete reports and logs through computer systems. The Sheriff hopes for more voice-activated reporting in the future to increase efficiency. After learning about current technologies, the author is excited to apply them as an officer.
This document discusses how different age groups use technology in schools and the importance of funding to provide access to all students regardless of monetary status. It notes that technology is used by high school students to figure things out themselves, while younger students use it to enhance hands-on learning with colors and sounds, and that students in poor districts risk falling behind without computer access.

The Vietnam War was a significant event in American history that sparked widespread protests. The Viet Cong relied on the Ho Chi Minh Trail to transport supplies through jungles and tunnels to evade American and South Vietnamese forces. The US used helicopters and defoliating agents like Agent Orange, dropping over 19 million gallons to expose the enemy. The Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964 led to increased US involvement after reported attacks on US ships. Key figures who influenced the war effort included presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon as well as military leaders McNamara, Kissinger, Giap, and Thieu. Mass protests erupted over the expansion of the war into Cambodia and the killing of students at Kent State and Jackson State
