Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat deposits from under the skin. It can target fat in the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, and arms. The procedure involves inserting a thin tube through small incisions to loosen and suction out fat. While liposuction aims to contour and slim specific body areas, it will not result in significant weight loss. Nurses play an important role in educating patients, obtaining consent, monitoring for complications, and ensuring proper post-operative care following liposuction.
