Wright State University originally began in 1967 as a branch campus of Ohio State University and Miami University. It became an independent institution in 1967. There are currently 19 buildings on the Wright State campus. A prominent sculpture on campus called "Turning Points" was created by artist David Black in 1998 and is located in the plaza outside of University Hall. However, students often refer to the large red sculpture alternatively as BART (big ass red thing).

Wright State’s campus, Turning Points. The curves and spirals
sculpted in red aluminum atop six granite pillars and
complementing pavers were created in 1998 as part of the
University Hall addition.
