Adult brains are capable of rapid growth and change in response to new experiences and learning, according to a study of cab drivers in London. Researchers found that the hippocampus, a brain area associated with spatial memory and navigation, was larger in experienced cab drivers compared to controls. The growth suggests that the adult brain has an ability to adapt that was previously thought to exist only in young, developing brains.
