Orchid reproduction involves the growth of keikis (plantlets) on the flowering stem or roots of the parent plant. Keikis form due to the plant's natural hormonal processes and can develop roots and leaves of their own if given the right environment. By removing the keikis and planting them, orchid growers are able to propagate new plants that are genetically identical to the parent plant.
