North Carolina’s Lighthouses By:  McKayla Chambers, Allie Barker, Nathan Dunn, and Taylor Yarborough
Bodie  Lighthouse Bodie Lighthouse is located  on Bodie Island .  It is black and white and it’s signal distance goes as far as 19 nautical miles.  The first time it was built was in 1872. It was rebuilt 3 times. The lighthouse is still in operation.  You can’t go inside it now because a family owns it.
Cape Lookout !! Cape Lookout is 165 feet tall.  The   lighthouse has been up for 150 years.  It was built 1859.  It is 18 miles at sea.  It is located in Carteret County. You can still go inside of it.  It is still in operation. The lighthouse has black and white diamonds .
Oak Island It is 169 feet tall.  It was built in 1950.  It is black, white and gray .  You can see it 21 nautical miles at sea.  It is still in operation, but you can’t go inside of it.  It is located in Oak Island  N.C.
Bald Head Lighthouse It is located  on  Bald  Head Island.  Something interesting about it, is that you can get married in it.  It is  brown and  white and made out of cement.  It was built in 1818. The lighthouse is 110 feet tall.  It is the oldest lighthouse in N.C.
Cape Hatteras Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is located on Hatteras Island.  It has white and black stripes all around it.  It was built in 1870.  It is 193 feet tall.  It is in operation but you can’t go inside of it.  The light goes out 19 miles from sea.
Ocracoke Lighthouse Ockracoke Lighthouse is in Ocracoke Village.  It is in operation and you can go inside!  As you can see, it is white and black at the top.  It is 64 feet tall. It was made in 1820.
