Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

3. REGULAMENTO BRILÉ
1. O xogador con balón debe evitar dar máis de tres pasos.
2. Cando un xogador reciba o balón debe actuar rápido (evitar pararse a pensar): lanzar a brilar ou pasar.
3. Evitar indicar de alguna forma ós compañeir@s o que deben facer, nin falando, nin con xestos, nin gritos..
4. O xogo regulao o arbitro co silbato: empezase co toque de silbato e párase si durante o xogo sona este.
5. Un lanzamento a brilar só será válido si golpea o contrario entre os ombros e os xeonllos, agás si o brilado se
lanza ao chan ou se queda quieto que se considerará válido o golpeo.
6. Cando a un xogador sexa brilado será o encargado de reanudar o xogo dende o cementerio. Cando no
cementerio haxa 3 xogadores poderase usar os campos laterais para brilar.
7. Os partidos terán unha duración aproximada de 15 min. Comezarán as 11:35 e finalizarán ao son da sirena.
8. Gañará o equipo que finalizado o tempo consiga maior nº de brilados.
9. Obteráse a seguinte puntuación:
• Partido gañado 3 puntos
• Partido empatado 2 puntos.
• Partido perdido 1 punto.
• Se todo o equipo levou a cabo o protocolo de xogo limpo 3 puntos.
4. PROTOCOLO DE XOGO LIMPO NOS PARTIDOS DE BRILÉ
1. Saudar aos árbitros e ao equipo rival ao comezar e ao finalizar o partido.
2.Xogar respetando ás normas establecidas.
3.Aceptar as decisións arbitrais que sucedan no lance do partido. Soamente os capitáns
poden dirixirse aos árbitros e deben facelo con educación.
4.Parar o xogo en caso de que algún xogador se lastime ou lesione.
5.Animar aos compañeir@s e evitar protestar ou poñer malas caras aos
compañeiros/as, rivais ou árbitros.
6. Ser honestos e non señalar falta en caso de accións dudosas nos partidos.
7.Aceptar a derrota con deportividade e celebrar a victoria con respeto aos rivais.
8. Pásalo ben e disfrutar do recreo practicando deporte cos compañeir@S.
5. FUNCIÓNS DOS CAPITÁNS NOS PARTIDOS DE BRILÉ
✓Serán os encargados de elexir aos componentes dos seus equipos.
✓Os equipos terán que ser mixtos e equilibrados.
✓Representarán ao equipo e falarán cos árbitros e cos demáis capitáns.
✓Animarán aos compañeir@s e sacarán o mellor deles.
✓ Serán exemplo de xogo limpo.
✓ Terán que elexir a un compañeiro/a do seu equipo e asumir as funcións de
árbitro /anotador da acta do partido.
6. FUNCIÓNS DOS ÁRBITROS E ANOTADORES
1. Sacar o material e colocalo no terreo de xogo.
2. Cubrir a acta do partido.
3. Velar porque se cumpra o protocolo de xogo limpo.
4. Amonestar aos xogadores cando non cumpran as seguintes regras:
▪ Dirixirse ao árbitro sen ser o capitán.
▪ Comportamentos antideportivos: malos xestos, insultos...
▪ Facer trampas.
5. As amonestacións serán:
▪ VERDE: aviso de que non está cumprindo as normas.
▪ AMARELO: suporá 3 minutos de expulsión, sen xogar.
▪ VERMELLO: expulsado do partido, cunha penalización dun partido sen xogar.
6.Otorgar vidas extras: cando nun equipo falte un xogador (enfermidade) o seu equipo terá
unha vida extra. Ao principio do partido elixirán o xogador que a terá e comunicaranllo ao
árbitro.
