An ugly looking but brilliant doctor once
told a dull-witted but very pretty nurse,
“Even though you have little brains, your
looks are simply great!”
“Oh, thank you, Doctor,” the
dumb nurse said happily. “You know, how
great it’d be if we were to get married
…we’ll have children with your
intelligence and my looks.”
“What if our children have my looks and
your brains?” the doctor remarked.
Reflection
We cannot assume that things will
turn out the way we want them to.
When one realizes that the course
life can take can be unpredictable,
wisdom arises.

Husband: Darling, I’ve turned over a

of ladies’ hair on my shirt. I don’t
fool around with women anymore.
Wife: Some of my friends said
that they have seen you visiting
temples. No ladies’ hair
on your shirt?
You are now fooling
around with nuns!
Reflection
Jealousy is a strong mental
defilement. The jealous mind can
be most irrational and deluded and
this can lead one to real trouble
and suffering.

4. The Speaker
A well-known motivation speaker gave a talk to a
local Women’s Club. At the end of his talk, the
secretary of the Club approached him with a
cheque meant as reimbursement for his
traveling expenses. The speaker declined the
cheque and said it could be donated to any
charity. “Would you mind,” the secretary
asked, “if we put the donation
into our Special Fund?”
“Not at all,” the speaker replied. “As a matter
of curiosity, what’s the Special Fund for?”
“To enable our Women’s Club to get a better
speaker next year.”
Reflection
One has to be careful and
mindful of one’s speech
because wrong speech can
hurt others and bring about
undesirable consequences.

A pregnant woman went to consult a
fortune teller. The fortune teller
told her, “I am sorry to tell you this
my dear friend. When your baby is
born, the baby’s father will die.”
The woman heaved a sigh of relief as
she muttered softly, “Thank God!
My husband will be safe.”

How many spouses have extra-marital
affairs! In a permissive society today, the
number seems to be increasing. Adultery
is immoral and will bring about
painful consequences.
It is breaking a moral precept.

Dishonesty or lying is a break of a moral
precept. This can lead to unpleasant
consequences and suffering.
Honesty and integrity are great noble virtues
to be practised.
The Cheating Husband
A wife slapped her husband at the
face after discovering
a piece of paper with the name
‘Ah Lan’ written on it.
“It was the name of a horse I bet
on yesterday,” the husband
protested vehemently.
The following day the wife
slapped the husband again.
“What was that for?” he asked.
“Your horse called last night,”
the wife replied.
出轨的丈夫
一名妻子发现一张写有名字的纸后，打
了丈夫一巴掌上面写着“阿兰”。 “这
是我昨天打赌的一匹马的名字，”丈夫

It does not pay to have thoughts or
deeds rooted in greed, lust and
delusion or ego.

An Anniversary Wish
A married couple, both 60 years old, were
celebrating their 35th wedding
Anniversary. During their party, a wizard
appeared to congratulate them
and grant them each one wish.
The wife wanted to travel around the world
and poof – the wife had tickets in her hand
for a world cruise.
Next, the fairy asked the husband
what he wanted. He said, “I wish I
had a wife 30 years younger than me.”
The wizard picked up his wand and poof –
the husband was 90 years old.
周年纪念愿
望一对 60 岁的夫妇正在庆祝结婚 35 周

8. Lucky Day?
One day, a small-sized middle-aged man
went for his evening walk along a road in
the countryside. Suddenly he was knocked
down by a cyclist, a rather tough-looking
guy. The cyclist remarked loudly, “Little
man, this is your lucky day!”
“What do you mean – my lucky day?”
the accident victim said
as he picked himself up.
“It certainly is,” the cyclist replied. “Today
is my Saturday day off – otherwise I’d be
driving a truck!”

有一天，一位身材矮小的中年男子在乡村
的一条路上散步。 突然，他被一个骑自行

Some terrible characters would not
admit to their wrongs, let alone
apologize to the person they have
hurt. They even try to rationalize
their mistakes. One day they will
regret their ego.

9. The Importance of Exercise
The doctor advised Ah Kow on the
importance of exercise for good
health. Ah Kow exclaimed,
“But Doctor, I play football and
basketball everyday!”
“Oh, that’s good,” the doctor said.
“For how long do you play
these games?”
Ah Kow immediately replied,
“Until the battery in my mobile phone
dies off!”

hi-tech gadgets. This results in a
lack of physical exercise leading
to health problems.

Assistance From God
For his examination paper, the lecturer wanted
his students to sign a form declaring that they
had not received any form of assistance from
outside. Arokiasamy, a rather lazy student had
not prepared for the exam. When it came to
signing the declaration form, he stated that he
had prayed hard for the assistance of God. The
lecturer carefully studied the answer script and
then told Arokiasamy, “You can sign the form
with a clear conscience.
God certainly did not assist you.”

One evening, Mr. Chew Sian Ong
was sitting at home having
drinks with his wife. He muttered
indistinctly, “Oh, I really love you.”
The wife asked, “You are drunk! Is
that you or the bottle of beer
talking to me?”
Sian Ong, with his head and body
swaying, “It’s me…
talking to the beer.”

The dangers of drinking are real.
Intoxication brings about a
deluded mind, loosens the tongue
making it speak nonsense and
causes actions which can harm
others.
