LIBERTYVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL SIGNS NEW 20-YEAR LEASE
Youth Baseball to continue at Butler Lake Park until 2035
LIBERTYVILLE, IL - The Libertyville Little League board of directors met last night and approved
a new 20-year lease with the Village of Libertyville. The purpose of agreement is to ensure the
operation of little league baseball for the enjoyment of Libertyville youth without interruption at
Butler Lake Park until 2035.
The agreement, ratified by Mayor Terry Wepler and the Village Board on June 23, 2015 provides
the Libertyville Little League with access to and the responsibility to maintain the public park
grounds and facilities.
Per the new Village Ordinance (15-O-52), the Libertyville Little League will lease six baseball
fields and certain physical structures from the Village for an annual payment of $1.
The low-cost agreement allows the youth sports organization to focus its fundraising and
carefully-planned budget allocations on additional capital improvements to the park's baseball-
related facilities. The Libertyville Little League has made significant capital improvements to
Butler Lake Park since its founding in 1951, including a $70,000 expansion of the "AAA" field in
2014. The little league board has several, similar enhancements planned for the next few years.
The Village will continue to maintain access to public utilities, including water, sewage and
electric. However, the conditions of the current electrical service outlined in the agreement are
subject to change, based on the electric company continuing to provide free service to the lighted
ball fields. The Village will also continue to provide ongoing maintenance and improvements to
parking lots and sidewalks, and janitorial services for the public restrooms at Butler Lake Park.
The Village retains the rights to "Odom Field" for the programming and activities provided through
the Village Recreation Department, such as adult softball and kickball leagues.
The Libertyville Little League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization open to all children –
regardless of skill level or physical ability– ages six to eighteen living in Libertyville, Green Oaks,
Rondout and the Naval Station Great Lakes. For more information, please visit
