E stands for empathizing instead of sympathizing, not tearing people down, maintaining emotional discipline, and using a commend-criticize-commend approach. A stands for acknowledging strengths and weaknesses, encouraging but managing ambition, and delegating important tasks. R stands for recognizing accomplishments, providing immediate recognition, and using various recognition methods. T stands for teaching new skills, setting training expectations, developing accountability, always learning, and providing tools to accomplish more.
