Leading Through a Storm: Local NJ Business Man Leads Team to Top
                            National Spot
Despite a Hurricane, New Jersey’s Ocean & Monmouth Counties Took Top Honors
There are still opportunities out there!

Navigating through the worst economic recession takes a lot of extra effort these days, but doing so,
in spite of the most devastating hurricane to hit the East Coast in nearly a century, is worth a double-take.

Dean DeAngelo, territory manager for Heartland Payment Systems and a Jersey native, was recognized
by the company for leading his team to the top spot in payroll sales in the U.S. in 2012. DeAngelo also
personally was second in the nation for the second time in payroll sales nationally.

“To be successful in a down market requires turning a deaf ear to the bad news and making certain
my team and I focused on what would strengthen and deepen our customers business,” said DeAnglo,
“Businesses talk to each other, and one good referral is better than ten cold sales calls.”

“The more reliable the credit card and payroll processing is for these small businesses, the more resilient a
retail business becomes, DeAnglo added. “If business is down, they didn’t need their back office
functions going down at the same time.”

Heartland Payment Systems also is discovering that with the New Year, there is still business to be had
with these hardest hit counties of New Jersey.

The growth in the territory is attributed to four factors: a great customer experience, a superior product,
strong commitment through personal relationships, and increased referrals.

As the region recovers from the various storms, DeAngelo is trying to lay the groundwork to be even
more useful to existing customers and obtaining new ones. DeAngelo is expanding his sales force and
expects it to double by 2014. He is actively seeking to fill several sales slots. “There is a lot of positive
customer buzz in Heartland’s referral pipeline, especially for many businesses in the regions affected by
Hurricane Sandy.
