Making Connections
The continuous line drawing concept introduces a human dimension to the conference. The illustrations are still
abstract enough, however, to permit a wide range of creative interpretations. Their “hand-drawn” quality underscores
a human, people-oriented approach to leadership. In fact, the continuous, flowing lines are reminiscent of individual
signatures: the shaping, helping hand is never far away.

Drawing on your Potential
The two illustrations presented here correspond to the two conferences. The “garden” illustration suggests that the
participants are planting the seeds of their leadership. They are acquiring the skills they will need for their personal and
professional development. The second illustration, of a mountain climber looking through binoculars, corresponds to
the “action” phase of the participant’s leadership, when vision and action will be required to scale new heights.

The graphic approach is simple and flexible, with flat colors and flowing lines. The “doodle” quality of the illustration
is friendly and approachable, yet it retains an abstract quality that lends itself to broad interpretation.

The Power of Character
In today’s world, our global culture is drawn from the imagery of films and television shows.
These images have a potency that easily transcends national, linguistic and ethnic borders.
At the same time, the characters depicted in these cultural references have universal significance:
Dorothy’s quest is timeless and poignant; Batman and Robin’s pursuit of evildoers never
ends; the “western” retains its sense of adventure; and Pepe Le Pew remains the standard
illustration of how a powerful idea drives behavior.

Building Character
The mythic figures have in common a strong central character that guides their actions
and that resonates throughout the narrative. Leadership is being able to ascertain
these lessons and to make them your own. It is, ultimately, about building character.

An imaginative springboard
Graphically, this approach uses archival stills from famous movies, cartoons or television
shows, juxtaposed with one or a few simple words that open the possibilities for discussion
and analysis. They form the foundation situation from which a lesson can be drawn about
leadership — its attainment and exercise. These visuals act as an imaginative springboard for
discussion, and serve as a lighthearted take on leadership. Indeed, they are hard to resist
for their humor and wit.

There’s more than one solution to every problem
This approach is simple, elemental and intellectual. It illustrates how leadership requires a creative intelligence to marshal
people and resources into a unified and effective whole. The individual geometric pieces are “meaningless” on their own,
but when joined in the correct combination, they coalesce into a meaningful whole.

The illustrations are still abstract enough, however, to permit a wide range of creative interpretations. Their “hand-drawn” quality underscores a human, people-oriented approach to leadership. In fact, the continuous, flowing lines are reminiscent of individual signatures: the shaping, helping hand is never far away. The “garden” illustration suggests that the participants are planting the seeds of their leadership. They are acquiring the skills they will need for their personal and professional development. The second illustration, of a mountain climber looking through binoculars, corresponds to the “action” phase of the participant’s leadership, when vision and action will be required to scale new heights. The graphic approach is simple and flexible, with flat colors and flowing lines. The “doodle” quality of the illustration is friendly and approachable, yet it retains an abstract quality that lends itself to broad interpretation.
