Syrian CSOs and Humanitarian Community ReportSteven Dixon
This document provides an introduction and overview of a report examining partnerships between international and local Syrian humanitarian organizations in the context of the Syrian civil war. The report is based on interviews conducted with Syrian civil society organizations, international NGOs, UN agencies, and Swiss aid agencies and NGOs in Gaziantep, Turkey. The introduction discusses the humanitarian crisis in Syria, outlines the research questions around partnerships, and presents two key debates around sustainability of aid and the role of local actors. It acknowledges partnerships as a potential way to improve sustainable humanitarian assistance in such complex emergencies but also notes challenges that must be addressed.
The document discusses tourism in Rocinha, a favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It provides background on the history and development of mass tourism, sustainable tourism, and the anthropology of tourism. It notes that while tourism was initially seen as a way to economically benefit poor countries, it often had negative social impacts and cultural impacts. The document then discusses the recent growth of tourism agencies offering tours of Rocinha and argues that while they claim to be sustainable and benefit the local population, they may actually perpetuate negative stereotypes of the favela and not provide significant economic benefits to residents. It notes issues with the agencies claiming to be sustainable when they do not employ local residents or redistribute profits within the community.
Mule ESB provides a standard integration framework that makes system integration simple. It allows for faster and more robust integration through various connectors that facilitate data transformation and exchange across formats and protocols. Some key advantages of Mule ESB include being able to easily create and test flows in a graphical drag-and-drop environment without extensive configuration knowledge. In comparison, Spring Integration takes a more application-centric approach best suited to small-scale internal integration, while Mule ESB acts as a full integration platform suitable for a wider range of scenarios.

Dr. T.V. Rao discusses how microbiologists and clinicians can improve diagnostic microbiology through better interaction and understanding each other's roles. Many microbiologists work in isolation without understanding clinical implications. Clinicians also do not fully utilize laboratory results. This has led to increasing antibiotic resistance and worse patient outcomes. Dr. Rao proposes several responsibilities for microbiologists, including providing guidelines for proper specimen collection, maintaining an effective computer system for testing and reporting, and periodically publishing antibiotic susceptibility patterns. He also stresses the importance of quality control and open communication between microbiologists and clinicians.

INNOVATIVE
14. Today, the field of medicine is increasingly digital. Technology makes it
possible to retrieve critical information more quickly, share information
between providers, analyze patient data and communicate patient
information with just a click. LabCorp not only understands the need for
technological solutions to your testing needs, but is also leading the way
with innovations that work harder for your practice.
From EHR integration to ePrescribe to benefits like results trending that can enhance your patient care, we have
the tools and expertise to help ensure the speed, quality and reliability of test orders and results.
WORKING WITH ELECTRONIC
HEALTH RECORD VENDORS
Our strong relationships with EHR vendors allow us to offer you
seamless integration among software platforms, so your practice
can efficiently manage critical workflow when incorporating lab
information into the platform for your preferred EHR vendor.
These alliances with EHRs also allow us to offer your practice more
patient-centered features than many other labs:
• Abnormal result flagging—Quickly alerts you to abnormal
results so you don’t lose time in diagnosis.
• Results trending—Enables you to monitor and trend a
patient’s lab results (including Pap) from a single screen
embedded in the patient’s EHR.
• 2D bar codes—Adds a bar code to an EHR-generated
lab order that accompanies your patient’s specimen
to LabCorp to reduce manual errors.
• Medical necessity verification—Makes it clear, within
a patient’s EHR, if you need a patient signature for
certain labs you may order.
• Integration with central order repository—Electronically
sends lab orders directly to our draw sites, with no paper
script or order form required.

15. HOW TECHNOLOGY BENEFITS

As your partner in women’s health, our
technological expertise can help you

for your patients to book appointments online at
any LabCorp location, which minimizes wait times.
• LabCorp ePrescribe—This easy-to-use software allows
you to order patient prescriptions from the same
interface from which you order labs.
• Results accessibility—In order to provide your patients
with copies of their test results, our Beacon system
makes it easy to forward their results to Google Health,
Microsoft Health Vault, Relay Health, and more.
• Referrals—With just a few clicks, you can easily
share your patient’s lab results with another
medical provider.
• CarePath reports—These patient-friendly result-
explanatory documents that are specific to common
screening tests such as Paps and HPV are useful,
easy-to-understand tools that can assist you in better
communicating details with your patients.

16. LABCORP BEACON—ENHANCED ONLINE
ACCESS TO YOUR TESTS
• Accudraw—To assist our over 7,000 phlebotomists,
improve the quality of patient care, and help reduce
errors, we have developed proprietary software called
Accudraw. Through Beacon, your staff can have access
to Accudraw, so you can be clear on which tubes are
used, how much specimen is needed and how to store
the specimen.
• Integration with mobile devices—Beacon can
seamlessly deliver information to devices such as the
iPhone or iPad, so you can access patient results at
any place or time.
• PMS integration—Whichever practice management
system you use, Beacon is able to integrate patient
information, so that your staff minimizes duplicate
data entry and avoids manual data entry errors. We
pull patient demographic and insurance information
directly from your PMS system.
• Lab flexibility—If your patient needs to send orders
to an alternate lab to meet insurance requirements,
Beacon can assist in transferring the information with
minimum legwork required.
• Abnormal result flagging—Within the LabCorp
Beacon inbox, abnormal results are highlighted in red
and indented, for clear viewing of critical information.
LabCorp Beacon, our powerful new lab management system, allows you to easily order,
view, share, manage and analyze lab results inside one single, intuitive platform. Because
Beacon looks and feels like an email system, new users are able get up and running with
very little training. Plus, all of Beacon’s features are flexible and customizable enough to fit
the needs of your practice. Some of the highlights of the Beacon system include:
