LAUREN MO ACL
1. When the 2015-16 girls varsity basketball season came around the corner, the team was
optimistic about their upcoming games.
With their senior point guard captain Lauren Moghavem out because of an ACL injury in only
preseason, the quickly team became a little worried.
During their game at Milkin High School Moghavem “was going for a fast break and was trying
to jump stop. But when I jump stopped I landed with my knee con caved,” Moghavem said.
Moghavem did not realize that she had such a severe injury until the next morning when she
could not walk after getting out of bed.
“I was really disappointed because it was only pre-season at the time and I am a captain and a
senior… and I think the biggest part is just adjusting to a new lifestyle,” Moghavem said.
While going through the mental and physical pain of no longer having the ability to play for her
last season, Moghavem attempted to find a silver lining.
“I’m excited to get back on my feet to watch the team grown even more. Even though it will be
tough to be at as many games as I could, I’ll always try to be there for them for advice on and
off the court,” Moghavem said
Co-captain senior Jennifer Zhang added, “Because Lauren was one of our starters and one of
our lead scorers, her absence from the court forced other players to step up their game in order
to fill in for Lauren’s position and contribution to the team,”
While Moghavem has started the path to recovery after her surgery, she still wishes she could
be with the rest of her team.
“My goal is to get back on my feet in the next week or two, or at least stat my physical therapy,”
Moghavem said.
To sophomore Amanda Lee, she hopes to see the team grow closer and overall improve no
matter what obstacles they have to jump through.
“Her sense of leadership is what really drove the team. With her being out, the team lost one of
our best point guards. We miss her dearly and hope she has a good recovery,” Lee said.
Although the basketball workouts and team wins are what captains would hope for, Moghavem
simply wants her bond with her teammates to last.
“It was more of missing having to scrimmage with them and teaching them and we were like
friends and we were like sisters,” Moghavem said.
