TeX is usually pronounced "teck" but can also be pronounced "lay-tecks". LaTeX is a markup language for typesetting documents and provides commands for headings, citations, tables, figures, and bibliographies. It uses plain text files and commands prefixed with backslashes to control formatting and layout. Common elements of a LaTeX file include document classes, packages, and environments.
