This study examined how intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation and different types of rewards influence children's creativity. 150 fifth-grade students completed a collage-making task under different conditions. Results showed that intrinsic motivation training led to more creative collages than extrinsic motivation training or no training. Participation rewards also led to more creativity than performance rewards. The most creative collages came from students who received intrinsic motivation training and participation rewards. The study provides insights into how to best motivate creative work in children but has limitations like only assessing one age group and could be expanded to other subject areas.
