We see a young man who is confessing his love
to a young woman. The body positions and the
expressions on the faces are wonderful. He
looks at her with open eyes, wanting to be as
convincing as possible, whereas she looks
down, showing some sort of shyness in attitude,
reinforced by the careful gathering of a flower.
An incredibly well done bronze sculpture on
love.
Hippolyte-Francois Moreau (French 1832 or
1836-1927) is the brother of Auguste Moreau
and like him, was always trying to describe
realist and graceful portraits of children or
young persons.

La statue représente un jeune homme qui
déclare son amour à son adoré.
Les expressions faciales et la posture des
corps soulignent l’importance de la cérémonie
du moment. Le jeune homme fait un effort pour
se montrer convaincant et honnête, tandis que
l'attitude de la jeune fille et la manière prudente
avec laquelle elle cueille une fleur expriment
plutôt un sentiment de
timidité.

“De Liefdesverklaring" Hippolyte Francois
Moreau : Het beeld stelt een jongeman voor die
zijn liefde verklaart aan zijn aanbedene. De
gelaatsuitdrukkingen en de lichaamshouding
beklemtonen de
plechtigheid van het ogenblik. De jongeman
spant zich in om overtuigend en eerlijk over te
komen, terwijl de houding van het meisje en de
voorzichtige manier waarop zij een bloem plukt,
eerder uitdrukking geven aan haar
schuchterheid of zelfs verlegenheid.
