The Korean national anthem is called "Aegukga" which means "the song for the love of the nation". The original lyrics were written around 1907 to foster patriotism during a time of foreign threats. In 1935, musician Iktae Ahn composed the music that is still used today. The South Korean government officially adopted this version in 1948 and it is regularly sung at schools and official events.
