Lindsey's anthology contains several poems about nature and human experiences:
1) The first poem describes sailing across a bay and basking in the warm sunlight reflecting off the lapping waves.
2) The second poem is about cautiously dipping a toe in the water and putting up walls of protection to guard against possible harm or threats.
3) The third poem calls out to save a place before it's too late, while the herons rule the sky and people below feel helpless, carrying out protests but can only do so much.
2. On the Bay
My hand traces the smooth surface of
the water
As I glide by peacefully
The sea sparkles around me
The sun glistens off the lapping waves
I bask in the warm light
As I sail across the bay
3. Cautious
Dipping your toe in the water
To make sure it is safe
Careful to speak
Careful to look
Careful to be hurt
Worrying of possible injury
Putting up walls of protection
From danger
From threats
From loss
Guarding against harm
4. Finding a Voice
Save this place
Before it is too late
The herons rule the sky
While the people sit below feeling helpless and silent
And busy themselves with honeycomb
The tie-dye protests
But they can only do so much
The masked still take the leaves
The feathers are dying
While the crystals are being polluted,
Raining down on the dry land
Who will help us?
Can we change our ways?
5. Childhood Observations
The rusty wagon creaks along
It’s humming to its working song
Above the sky is blue and clear
Beside the trail there sits a deer
Below the grass are lady bugs
With moles that rest in holes they dug
6. Confused Trouble
A man heard a roar in a ruin
And wondered what trouble was brewin’
He went downtown and stared
At the stack of green pears
And said hi to a man with the Cuban
7. Ode to Nature
Your awesome ocean swells
And awesome with small shells
Your majestic and snowy peaks
Giving new perspectives, not bleak
Your deep untouched caves
With wonders only seen by the brave
Your lush, wet rainforests
With bright foliage admired by tourists
Thank you for the bright warm sun
And its fiery sunsets chased by the moon as it runs
We love the cool sea spray
Thank you for the amazing days
