This document presents a dissertation on water oxidation with ruthenium catalysts. It discusses three types of mononuclear RuII complexes studied as water oxidation catalysts, including variations of ligands and structural effects on catalytic activity. It also examines two RuII complexes that are effective catalysts for light-driven water oxidation when combined with a photosensitizer and sacrificial electron acceptor. An intramolecular dyad assembly shows higher turnover for oxygen evolution than analogous intermolecular systems under light irradiation.
