13. Approx. 3 years+ of on/off spare time development by two people Loosely based on existing classic game. Very relaxed laid back design-as-we-go-along approach. (too relaxed in hindsight) Using Java wireless toolkit, Eclipse, Perforce. 2D and 3D graphics for sprites. Working with a highly memory and CPU restricted "scattered platform". While aiming for broadness in the install base. Viral features like invite-a-friend functionality. Competitive hi-score lists. No budget. Only time.... (and lots of it)
17. Lessons (not entirely) learned Unpaid spare time development (that actually finishes) is hard and only for the rarest breed of dedicated people. Be careful in who you choose. The mobile games business seemed tasty when the game was originally contrived eons ago. Testing on near-unlimited amounts of mobile phones is a challenge. Design-as-we-go-along is obviously not the optimal approach. Sales sales sales... still not good with the whole business thing.
