Riverside artist Chick Curtis won Best of Show for the third consecutive year at the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show for his oil painting titled "Shift Change". R. Mike Nichols won First Place for his watercolor titled "Twenty Minutes to Midnight", and ada m. passaro won Second Place for her pastel painting titled "Stolen Freedom". The art show featured works in various mediums submitted by artists from 39 Southern California cities.

We implemented a wide range of programs designed to revitalize our community through business assistance, beautification, entertainment, health, and arts programs. Major developments include establishing a weekly, seasonal farmers' market, free Zumba fitness classes, and the area's very first business improvement district.

CINTAS Foundation and MDC Museum of Art + Design Announce 2015-16 Fellowship ...Cintas Foundation
Miami, April 1, 2015 – The Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art + Design and the CINTAS Foundation have announced the ongoing 2015-2016 CINTAS Knight Foundation Award in Visual Arts.
All submission materials must be received by Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Marking its 51st year, the one-of-a-kind competition serves as a platform to promote and support visual artists, writers, architects and composers of Cuban descent from across the globe. The Collection has grown to be one of the largest bodies of Cuban art outside of Cuba and continues to grow each year with each new fellow.
“CINTAS Fellows are found represented in all major museums, as well as in important private and corporate collections throughout the world,” said CINTAS Foundation Board President Hortensia E. Sampedro.
In addition to supporting Cuban artists, many early in their careers, the CINTAS Foundation also maintains a growing collection of works by past awardees and other esteemed Cuban artists.
Past Visual Arts Fellows include:
Guillermo Calzadilla, in collaboration with the artist Jennifer Allora, produce community collaborations, instllatins, photograpy and sculptural work. Allora and Calzadilla represented the United States in the 2011 venice Biennale.
Carmen Herrera was one of Cuba’s first abstract painters. Herrera has exhibited widely in various solo and group shows, including the Outside Cuba exhibition. Herrera's pieces are in many museums and collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Tate Modern in London; the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.; El Museo del Barrio in New York; and Havana's Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. She is the winner of a Creative Artists Public Service Award (CAPS) in New York.
The late Félix Gonzáles Torres represented the USA in the 52nd Venice Biennale. He also had solo exhibitions at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York; the Brooklyn Museum; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Museum in Progress in Vienna; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.; and the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
The late Carlos Alfonso was represented in the Outside Cuba exhibition and the Cuba-USA: The First Generation traveling exhibition. He has also been the subject of several solo exhibitions in institutions such as the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in North Carolina, the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach and the Hal Bromm Gallery in New York.
Teresita Fernández has had solo exhibitions at Castello di Rivoli in Italy, the Masataka Hayakawa Gallery in Japan, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Deitch Projects in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami. She was also appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.

Riverside Artist Wins “Best of Show” for Third Consecutive Year
CORONA, CA (June 4, 2013) – Riverside artist Chick Curtis painting received the Best of Show Award
in the Third Annual Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show, an award he also received in 2012 and
2011. The art show Jury selected Curtis “Shift Change” titled oil painting for the top show award. The
gallery is open to the public through June 30 at The Shops at Dos Lagos, located at Temescal Canyon
Road between Weirick Road and Cajalco Road in Corona.
The Shops at Dos Lagos awarded $5,000 in prizes to 18 artists including the $1,000 Best of Show Award
to Chick Curtis at a preview reception at the gallery. R. Mike Nichols from Riverside, winner of the $500
First Place Award for his watercolor titled “Twenty Minutes to Midnight” was also a previous year
winner of the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos show. Nichols won the First Place Award in 2012 and received
an Honorable Mention Award in 2011.
The other top show winners are ada m. passaro, Riverside, $400 Second Place winner for her pastel
painting titled “Stolen Freedom. Michael Thompson, Corona, was the $300 Third Place Winner for his
Acrylic paintings titled “Log in Your Eye” and he also received a $200 Honorable Mention Award for his
painting titled “Hardened Heart Thwarted By The Holy Spirit.”
The Jury selected 13 additional entries for $200 Honorable Mention Awards. Two of the Honorable
Mention winning artists each received two awards:

Artists from 39 Southern California submitted almost 400 entries in genres including acrylic, oil, ink, pen
graphite, photography, pastels, and mixed media. The 2013 Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Jury selected the
Show artwork and winning artists. The Art Jury included Robin Wethe Altman, Laguna Beach, an award
winning artist who has juried many shows and has her art displayed throughout California; Chuck
McPherson, San Diego, a frequent art exhibition juror, who has won nearly 100 awards for his paintings
since 2008; and Alex Tiscareno, President and Director of FIVE, a design and marketing studio in San
Diego who has created graphic and digital art for commercial, private and nonprofit clients for more than
15 years.
Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Gallery Opens Saturday
Admission is free to the Summer Arts at Dos Lagos Juried Art Show Gallery from June 1 – 30. The
Gallery, which is located at The Shops a Dos Lagos near The Children’s Place store, will be open on
Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.
Most of the Juried art is available for purchase. Artists receive 70% of artwork sales, with 30% donated to
area art education programs, Visitors to the Gallery can register for the chance to win merchant prizes and
tickets to the upcoming Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters.
The public can also view the Heart Gallery portrait exhibit. The professional portrait exhibit features
