A new law in Florida will make texting while driving a secondary offense in order to increase road safety. According to studies, texting takes a driver's focus away from the road for over 4 seconds on average. A deputy and 71% of Floridians support banning texting while driving due to multiple accidents involving distracted drivers. The new law will fine first time offenders $30 and second time offenders $60, and add 6 points to a driver's license if involved in an accident while texting. Some students think bans are unnecessary, but most support increasing safety.
