PERSONAL STATEMENT
I've always had a passion for sport and design. I've grown up playing nearly every sport possible, and
as I've matured the importanceof design and new technology within thesports industry havebecome
much more apparent. The course I'm currently undergoing covers an incredibly broad range of topics
and continues to provide me with an extremely transferable skill set. I excel in design and visualisation,
I've been drawing since a young age and now I'm constantly working to refine my drawing technique
to further improve my craft. I have a creative and innovative outlook, focusing the majority of my time
on footwear. I often research new technologies within the footwear industry which has helped me
build a comprehensive understanding of all the components of a performance shoe. This research
goes hand in hand with the materials modules I have completed, it allows me to relate my knowledge
of the given materials to sporting applications, such as performance footwear. I’ve played basketball
at a high level for a number of years, including representing the university, this has specifically allowed
me to critique and understand how basketball shoes work, and where improvements need to be
made.

INTERESTS
School and university have given me numerous opportunities to take part in a
variety of sports, I'm a very competitive person and have spent the majority of
my life playing team sports, this has allowed me to develop fantastic teamwork
and communication skills. I have played basketball at a high level for over 5
years. I represented both Nottinghamshire and East Midlandsprior to playingfor
my university team.
Skiing is another major interest of mine, I’ve visited Chamonix several times
where I've successfully skied the Vallee Blanche, an infamous 22km glacier.
I have been fortunate enough to travel to many places across the globe. In the
summer of 2012 I embarked on a World Challenge expedition to Tanzania,
Africa where I successfully climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was a fantasticexperience
in which I gained an abundance of teamwork and comradery skills. In the late
summer of 2013 I travelled around the majority of Europe, and similarly in the
summer of 2014 I was able to spend a month travelling in Thailand. Travelling
the world and experiencing different cultures has made me a much more
rounded individual.
Art and design is another of my interests. I devote a lot of my time to producing
my continuingportfolio of footwear designs. From my in depth research into the
athleticfootwear industry, nomatterhow good a shoe may perform it still needs
to be aesthetically pleasing to be successful, therefore aesthetics is something
I focus on.
