To make ice cream, first you’ll need to acquire the following items: A special ice cream “bucket” container Ingredients for your flavor of ice cream Too much time on your hands DIY “Bucket”:You can also construct your own ice cream “bucket” – though it’d probably cost you more time and money than it’s worth to do so! If you’re a masochist, though, go ahead and try it, remembering to line the inside of the container with Teflon or whatever material it is they use to keep the insides of the bucket smooth. Also be sure to fill the outer rims with a special chemical-based liquid that will freeze and unfreeze for as many years as you own the device. You can usually obtain this special chemical-based liquid through a friend who works at NASA. Midterm 2
3. Ingredients to have! Gather the following ingredients: 1 ¼ cups milk 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 ¼ cups white sugar, divided 1 quart heavy cream 10 egg yolks Optional add-ins (see side panel) Improvise: You can modify your recipe by adding all manner of ingredients to create your own flavor of ice cream. Vanilla is the ideal base for this type of experimentation – simply add chocolate chip morsels, raisins, peanuts, peanut butter, caramel, or just about any edible item to your ice cream.
