Editor's Notes
Using Prerecorded Backing Tracks at Concerts? To Do or Not To Do, that is the question!
The question of whether to use back tracks or live band arise in you career, at some point or another, What should your choice be?
When performing for live audiences, it is best to use live band and singers rather than studio backing tracks.
My target audience is performers, whether solo singers or bands. The journey will take them from ok performers to awesome entertainers.
In order to be a great performer you have to know the weight of every decision that you make and one of those is the way that you perform.
When going to see an artist live I expect to not only be amazed by the songs but by the singers themselves. When an artist starts their set with no band in sight, my heart drops the anticipation I felt down to nervousness of whether this singer is about to sing the same watered down radio rendition of their song that I’ve heard a billion times. I want to hear growth in the music, where it was expounded on in rehearsals.
The versatility of having live band and singers • When using live bad and singers an artist can take your performance to the next level. The songs no longer have to sound just like the recorded versions, but can grow and vocal harmonies, as well as chords that weren’t heard before, can be added.
Allows for audience participation. Allows you to continue songs that have gotten the audience engaged.
The experience for the audience • When an audience, especially one that is musically inclined, hears a song that they have heard a billions times before now being done in a way that is different but yet just as pleasing to the hear, it takes them on a new journey with a familiar song.
You can take an audience on a journey through time by changing up the tone mid performance.
The total feel of the entire performance. • The total feel of the performance changes when you add a live element to an artist’s set or song. Just like the difference in movies and stage plays, every movie will always be the same each time you watch it but stage plays are never the same.
When hearing a song with live band there may be tiny differences with each performance, the emotions the is feeling may have changed since recording the and it is conveyed ever so differently through each song.
Call to Action: Go listen to the studio version of your favorite song by your favorite artist and then find a version that is with live band and singers and see don’t you notice a differently feeling from that song.
By performing with live band and singers a performer can see 1) The versatility of having live band and singers
By performing with live band and singers a performer can see 2) Make the experience for the audience so much better
By performing with live band and singers a performer can 3) Change the total feel of the entire performance.
When performing for live audiences, it is best to use live band and singers rather than studio backing tracks.
Don’t allow your performance to be a bland white canvas. Add some color that only a live band and singers can.
Clincher: Performing with live band and singers will take you performance from just another set to a cosmic experience for your fans.
The next time you decide to pick up a mic, make sure you’re going to give your audience the experience of a lifetime with a live band set.
