The 2009 Traffic Safety Culture Index Survey was conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety to investigate the public's traffic safety knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and experiences. Through a random telephone survey of over 2,500 U.S. residents ages 16 and older, the survey found that the majority of drivers do not feel safer than five years ago, with distracted driving being a major reason cited. The survey also found that most drivers agree that using a cell phone while driving is a serious threat to safety, though many still engage in this dangerous behavior. The AAA Foundation will use the results of this survey to guide traffic safety research, education, and policy discussions.
