1) Ali and his uncle Sheik Hamid were riding in the desert when Ali spotted a bright jewel in the sand but didn't stop to inspect it.
2) Later, Ali traced his sword markings back to find the jewel. He showed his uncle, who decided they must find its owner.
3) An old woman helped in the search and eventually found that a princess in a camp had lost the matching earring. The princess gifted the jewels back as a sign of generosity.
4) Impressed by her generosity, the sheik went to ask for her hand in marriage, but soon discovered the princess truly loved another man. The sheik graciously let them marry instead.

Paola: Gianella and his nephew Ali were riding their horses in the desert. The shik was telling a
story. Suddenly, Ali saw something bright in the sand.
Magdalena: (to himself): is that a jewel?
Paola: Magdalena did not stop to look. It was not polite to interrupt his uncle´s story. But he
lowered his sword into the sand to make a line behind him as he rode.
Anita: later that day, Magdalena followed the line back to the jewel.
Magdalena: (to himself): there it is? What a fine jewel.
Anita: Magdalena returned and showed the jewel to his uncle.
Gianella: the owner of such a beautiful jewel must be a princess. We must find her. (The old
woman) grandmother! We need your help! (He hives the old woman the jewel). Find the person
who lost this jewel
Ruth: yes, Gianella.
Paola: the old woman went from camp to camp. No one knew who owned the jewel. Finally, she
came to a camp with big black tents. A beautiful princess welcomed her.
Princess: Come in, grandmother. How can I help you?
Ruth: (holding out the jewel), do you know who lost this?
Princess: (taking something out of a box), look here is my earring. I lost its mate in the desert. See
how they match!
Ruth: (nodding), yes. Take back your jewel. But please tell me your name.
Princess: my name is not important. Here, I give you the two jewels as a gift.
2. Anita: the old woman returned to her camp. She showed the sheik the jewels.
Gianella: I must meet this princess. She is as generous as a king.
Anita: he rode to the camp with the black tents. There, he met the prince, the father of the
princess.
Gianella: good prince, I came here to ask to marry your daughter.
Prince: (sadly), how can I refuse such a guest? My daughter will be your bride. She is the jewel of
the desert.
Paola: soon the wedding day came. The sheik was near the wedding tent when a young man
spoke to him.
Young man: the princess and I love each other. Her father knew this. But he could not refuse you
because you were his guest. Please let me marry her!
Gianella: you ask only for what is fair. May you and your bride find enjoy.
Magdalena: so it is when people do what is right.
