1) Jesus fed a large crowd of 5000 people who had followed him with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Despite the small amount of food, everyone ate and had their fill. 2) This sign showed Jesus' power and fulfilled prophecies of him being the Messiah. It also showed his concern for people's physical needs. 3) While the people saw this sign and wanted to make Jesus their king, Jesus knew they wanted a king to control and provide for them physically rather than spiritually. He knew they needed to go beyond physical bread and seek the eternal bread of life he provides.
