Ferdinand Magellan led an expedition to circumnavigate the globe in the early 16th century. His main goals were to find a western route to the Spice Islands, spread Christianity, claim new lands for Spain, and prove that the world was round. Although Magellan did not survive the entire journey, his crew completed the first circumnavigation, proving the Earth is spherical and opening the door to further global exploration and trade.
