ABOUT
Jana Cruder is a vibrant ray of sunshine; her positive air is
contagious. Her work may best be described as hyper-real with
a sense of soul. Jana’s ability to combine a fashion aesthetic with
underlying conceptual nuances gives her work a uniquely playful
tone.
Born and raised in western Pennsylvania, Jana fell in love with
photography in her early teens. Jana’s dad built her a darkroom
where she spent countless hours teaching herself how to process
and print film. She went on to graduate from the prestigious
advertising photography program at Rochester Institute of
Technology. There, Jana learned the technical side of creating
imagery, and after college moved west to start on her own studio.
Having come up the ranks of the apprenticing, assisting, and
production world of renowned fashion, celebrity, and editorial
photographers, Jana found the focus of her work early on.
Although just at home in the studio, she loves nothing more than
beautiful people in fabulous clothing and inspiring locations.
Once out west, Jana never looked at light the same way again. The
sun and beautiful deep blues of the California sky changed how
Jana saw things. Now light, saturation, color, and shadow become
her creative surges. Through honed observation and a keen
allowing; her work travels the line of fantasy and reality, resulting
in a world where the perfect is ever so slightly imperfect. Through
her rose-colored glasses Jana exalts the beauty in the mundane
and elaborate, resulting in images that blur the line between the
worlds of fashion, advertising and fine-art. Rich colorful, contrasty
images that convey an idea or mood, and jump off the page.
Jana currently splits her time between NY and LA and is available
for custom commissions worldwide.
