DUBAI: To express their gratitude
towards His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, UAE Vice President,
Prime Minister and Ruler of
Dubai, for his 10 years of never-
ending monumental
achievements, Aafaq Islamic
Finance announced plans to
launch a 12-volume “Dubai: A
World Icon” encyclopedia.
The encyclopaedia which will
cover all major achievements in
12 different categories will be
released on the 10th anniversary
of the firm in November.

and culture dignitaries, executive

President, Prime Minister
and Ruler of Dubai, whose
ten years as a Ruler were
a never-ending series of
monumental
achievements in every
aspect of development
and innovation. Our
celebration will be in the
form of an innovative
visual encyclopaedia
which aims to be a colourful
introduction to Dubai through a
combination of expressive
imagery and graceful
information. We want the
encyclopaedia to showcase
Dubai as an exceptional icon,
peerless in the modern era,”
said Albluki.
“In line with the announcement
of ‘2016 Year of Reading’
initiative, and the responsibility
of Aafaq Islamic Finance to
highlight Dubai’s position as a
hub for Islamic finance, we are
thrilled to announce our
Encyclopaedia project, which
will be released on November
12, as a pivotal title promising
to reveal the secrets to Dubai’s
prominence as well as regional
and global leadership. This
release comes after our
previous encyclopedia about
Islamic Economics.

Moreover, we have already started
working on the project’s website, which
will be available in several languages, as
well as social media channels and other
platforms of online promotion. We are
also happy to announce a precious
dedication from the UAE’s own
ingenious poet Ali Al Khawar who will
present a poem entitled: ‘Dubai: A World
Icon’,”. Albluki added.
Albluki also revealed the commissioning
of a specialised committee of writers,
journalists, intellectuals and
photographers to select and edit the texts
and define the visual identity of topics.
This will ensure the highest quality of
this project and harmony among its
elements to maximise its impact on the
reader.
He noted the aesthetic synergy
between text and imagery that
narrates a beautiful and captivating
story in every book of the project.
Mariam Othman, Director General of
Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre,
discussed the humanitarian aspect of
“Dubai: A World Icon” project,
which she said is one of the most
important features of Dubai’s
relationship with the outside world,
having extended its generous giving
and humanitarian assistance to all
corners of the planet. She also
emphasised that the human aspect
has always been an important
cornerstone in prosperous societies
and successful civilisations. She
added that Dubai’s renaissance
would not have been so graceful
without the integration of all the
elements of success, both human and
technological.

IFM recently concluded the two-day training
on “Product Champion”. The training was
conducted at Villa Rotana, Dubai for the
aafaq employees from 6th to 7th of January
2016. Ten trainees were handpicked from
various departments based upon their roles in
positioning of their products. The training
was conducted by Miss Keelin Vernon, who
is a management consultant, freelance trainer
and Coach in Dubai.
Objectives of the training were to enable the
attendees understand and analyse the current
position of their product and its life cycle,
identify various tools to analysis and
understand the current market for respective
products, and how, as product champions,
create synergies with other departments.
The training was also indented to
encourage the attendees to become
decision makers to develop the product,
explore opportunities for effective
results.
The feedback of the training conducted
was overwhelming. Indeed it became a
platform for exchange of ideas and
sharing concerns among various
departments and the synergies were
made. The sessions were interactive,
group oriented and directed towards
collective achievement of the Company’s
Vision.

to cover one of the main
pillars of HH initiative.
The training manuals will
soon be in the market in
both languages: Arabic
and English with very
affordable prices.

University College of Bahrain
to offer an Executive Master’s
Degree in Islamic Finance in
the UAE. The Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) was
signed by Dr. Mahmoud
Abdalaal, CEO of aafaq
Islamic Finance, and Dr.
Sheikh Khalid Bin
Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al
Khalifa, Founder and
Chairman of Board of
Trustees at University College
of Bahrain, in the presence of
senior officials and managers
from both parties.
The signing comes at a
strategic time when the
UAE is witnessing growing
investments towards human
capital to raise the bar of
Islamic finance in line with
Dubai’s efforts to achieve
the ambitious vision of
becoming the capital of the
global Islamic economy in
the coming few years.
Under the terms of the
newly concluded
agreement, the University
College of Bahrain will be
offering the Executive
Master’s in Islamic Finance
programme through select
faculty members and
administrators to ensure an
optimal learning experience
for students in line with the
highest international
standards in academics.
For its part, aafaq
Education will provide
the necessary licensing
for the provision of the
new Master’s
programme in the
UAE, in addition to the
required offices and
state-of-the-art
classrooms along with
the management of the
programme. aafaq

responsible for
marketing and
promoting the new
academic programme
in the UAE and the
GCC region, in order
to reach to the largest
possible segment of the
target audience.

IFM Signs MoU with Emirates
College of Technology
UAE, January 14, 2016 aafaq Islamic Finance
has recently entered into a strategic collaborative
agreement with the academic institution
‘Emirates College of Technology’ (ECT). This is
the latest key partnership in aafaq’s subsidiary
(Institute of Finance & Management) bid to
promote Islamic banking and finance and
contribute to making Dubai the capital of the
global Islamic economy through investments in
various economic sectors.
Under the MoU, Institute of Finance and
Management’ will issue joint occupational
certificates with ECT including a professional
diploma in Islamic finance focusing on the
Islamic economy, its theories and applications,
as well as topics that support banking and
financial establishments in general. The MoU
lays the foundation for strong cooperation in
terms of human resource development, research
and consultancy in the field of Islamic finance.
aafaq’s CEO Dr. Mahmoud Abdelaal and ECT’s
President Prof. Bruce Douglas Taylor signed the
MoU that also enjoins both sides to identify
other areas of collaboration to further boost their
strengths and attain their respective goals.
Prof. Taylor said: “Our agreement with IFM,
which is known for its expertise in Islamic
finance, is a big leap towards the realization
of our vision and mission. The MoU will
pave the way for us to establish mutually
beneficial initiatives that will serve our best

    Page 11 of16 IFM Monthly Newsletter IFM Signs MoU with Emirates College of Technology UAE, January 14, 2016 aafaq Islamic Finance has recently entered into a strategic collaborative agreement with the academic institution ‘Emirates College of Technology’ (ECT). This is the latest key partnership in aafaq’s subsidiary (Institute of Finance & Management) bid to promote Islamic banking and finance and contribute to making Dubai the capital of the global Islamic economy through investments in various economic sectors. Under the MoU, Institute of Finance and Management’ will issue joint occupational certificates with ECT including a professional diploma in Islamic finance focusing on the Islamic economy, its theories and applications, as well as topics that support banking and financial establishments in general.
