American AgCredit, the 7th largest Farm Credit cooperative, implemented a virtual server network consolidating 17 physical servers onto three physical servers. This reduced their annual electrical consumption by 57,218kWh, equivalent to the usage of five homes. The project aimed to cut costs and energy usage while improving security, business continuity, and the IT infrastructure. Virtualization provided benefits like faster deployment of new servers and easier software testing and maintenance. American AgCredit plans further virtualization to reduce electrical consumption and rack space utilization.
