Temple University's Campus Recreation said goodbye to two staff members, John Doman and Chris Hopkins, who took new positions at the University of Pennsylvania. Doman had worked at Temple since 2000 in various roles before becoming Senior Associate Director. Hopkins had worked at Temple since 2005 in roles such as Operations Manager and Assistant Director before becoming Associate Director of Fitness and Administration. Both reflected fondly on their time at Temple and the family atmosphere of Campus Recreation. Campus Recreation will hold an event called Swim for MS to raise awareness and funds for multiple sclerosis research. The event organizer's sister was diagnosed with MS at a young age and hopes this event helps support those with the disease.

- 1. It just takes one... Did You Know? Students often describe how one interaction with an ECU person has impacted their lives. Think about the many times that kindness shown from another person has made a difference for you. • You can smile and offer a friendly greeting when a student walks into your office. • You can go the extra mile by helping the student cut through the proverbial “red tape.” • You can send a follow up e-mail to a student in distress to show you care. • You can offer guidance to a struggling student - even when they are too afraid to ask. • You can remember that students are still a work in progress. • You can go above and beyond to help a student - isn’t that how you would want to be treated? Above all, please keep in mind that you never know when a few words of kindness and guidance can change the path for a student. Jayne Geissler, PhD Executive Director, Retention Programs and Enrollment Services Kathy Simpson, ECU College of Nursing professor, was on her way to work last week when her phone rang. On the other end (quite literally) was a former student calling from Afghanistan! First Lieutenant Dan Hines, BSN, 2008, is an Army Nurse who arrived in Afghanistan two weeks ago. He was calling to share his experiences and to thank Kathy for preparing him for what he called “the hardest, most intense but most rewarding job of my life.” Dan told her how grateful he was of the nursing education he received at ECU. In fact, he has already put his ECU stickers up in his living area. Arrrgh-go Pirates! As faculty, we never know how far our reach extends - but now we do. Pirate Nursing is global indeed!
