Heart disease is the number one killer in America, affecting over 82 million people and causing over 2,200 deaths per day. It causes more deaths among women than the next four causes of death combined, including all cancers. The main types of heart disease are heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and congenital defects, but high blood pressure and high cholesterol are also silent killers. The American Heart Association allocates donations to fund events like Heart Walk, Go RED For Women, and Wear RED Day to raise awareness and support research.
