1. I-SET WORKSHOP (2-5 July 2012)
I-SET hosted three parallel sessions of robotics from 2 to 5 July 2012. The robotics training was
presented in collaboration with engineers and engineering students from the Tshwane University of
Technology (TUT). In Exam Hall 1, more than 60 beginner and novice robotics learners tackled the
learning and the challenging fundamentals of robotics. In Exam Hall 2, more than 20 teams of
robotics learners tackled the advanced robotics programming and building. In the Miriam Makeba
auditorium, I-SET presented coach and mentor training for about 20 robotics coaches and mentors.
The focus of the training was to equip the robotics community, on differing levels of experience and
participation, for the World Robotics Olympics (WRO) competition as well as the FIRST Lego League
Competition. At all times, the fun of inspired Science, Engineering and Technology was emphasized.
This was evident in the enthusiasm and hectic participation of all the learners and their robots!
The WRO North Gauteng regional competition will be held on 21 July 2012 and the National
competition will be held on the 28 July. The North Gauteng Regional FIRST Lego League (FLL)
competition will be hosted at UNISA on 27 October 2012.
