IN BRIEF
IPSWICH City Plaza is 99 per
cent full.
In a move that has inspired
business confidence amid
current financial turmoil,
high-rise owner Trident
Corporation yesterday confirmed
the building only had space for
one more tenant.
“We’ve got only one area left
that’s 100sq m,” Trident
Corporation Director Marcus
Gaffney said.
“It’s a huge change from when
we bought it two years ago.”
Trident Corporation bought
the Ipswich CBD building
between Bell Street and the mall
from Tamawood Limited about
two years ago.
It spent between $4-5 million
refurbishing the building, putting
in a new air-conditioning system
and elevators.
Mr Gaffney said the latest
tenant to sign up was
Queensland Health.
“Queensland Health’s lease is
going through the public trustee
for signing now,” he said.
“It will be fit out soon and
office workers will be there in
about two to three months.”
Beauty on Belle owner
Gabrielle Pisasale moved her
business into Ipswich City Plaza
in October.
“I’m really happy we shifted
our business,” Ms Pisasale said.
“We were in Ipswich Square
near the health food store and
now we’ve got a shop that’s about
triple in size and has great store
frontage and exposure, which has
drawn a lot of new clients for us.
“Government employees
coming in will be fantastic for
us.”
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale
said that this was just one
example of how Ipswich was
sailing through the present
financial storm smoothly.
“While the rest of the economy
is in a storm, it’s calm in
Ipswich,” Cr Pisasale said.
“The number one thing that’s
given retailers confidence is that
the council has taken over. The
city purchase is probably the
best purchase we’ve ever made.”
Ipswich Chamber of Commerce
and Industry president Martin
Corkery agreed, saying it was
encouraging to see that the CBD
heart was coming together.
