   Documentary film "Women who killed their abusers"

   Dear,

   Project Combating Sexual and Gender based Violence of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy
   and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia invites you to the screening of the
   documentary "Women who killed their abusers", to take place on Wednesday, 18th April 2012 at
   12:00 in the DKC - Cultural Center, Kolarčeva 6, Belgrade.
   The documentary is about women who were brutally abused by their husbands or partners for
   years or even decades. According to research done for the SGBV project of the Ministry of Labour
   and Social Policy, 54 percent of women in the Serbia during their lives have suffered some form of
   domestic violence. This film is a document on this form of brutality.
   From abusive relationships women interviewed in the film came out by killing their abusers. They
   were sentenced to years in prison. Are they criminals or victims, who managed to survive taking
   justice into their own hands? Why could they not leave their abusers? Have they been assisted to
   get out of abusive relationships? What awaits them after prison? These are just some of the
   questions that prisoners who have killed their abusers correspond to, also commented by a
   psychologist, lawyer, sociologist, parliamentarians, an expert in domestic violence.
   A panel discussion dedicated to the same issues will be held immediately after the screening.
   Discussion participants will be representatives of the diplomatic corps in Serbia, politicians who
   had advocated amnesty for women who killed their abusers, representatives of institutions and
   civil society organizations and other public figures.

   (narrator), Mr. Vlada Divljan (music), Mr. Dragoslav Mihajlović (editor), Mr. Rade Radivojša
   (cinematographer)
   Running time 30 minutes.
   Filming was supported by the The Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Civil Rights Defenders.

   Project Combating Sexual and Gender based Violence is financially supported by the Norwegian
   Government and implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme
   (UNDP) in Serbia.
