PC EVOLUTION
At the beginning PC evolution has been led only by performance improvements.

Nowadays thanks to the incredible computational power available
technology is becoming more and more refining in order to fulfill al the requests of the application.
Why quiet PC in industrial environment ?
 Several applications requiring industrial PCs

       1) Industrial PCs are designed to assure high reliability
       2) Industrial PC are designed to assure operation in harsh environments
       3) Industrial PCs are designed to assure long life cycle support

Several applications requiring attended systems, so the operators are close to the
                                     system

System’s acoustic performance becomes an important detail

Acoustic Level Measurement

Sound pressure level must be an objective data

      •Unit of measure: decibel (dB)
      •Test standard: ISO-7779

Acoustic strategies to improve

A) Thermal/Acoustic integration
      Fan speed control
      Low system impedance

B) Selection of components with improved acoustic behavior
Key component to reduce the noise:

       FANS in the system
Fans are the main noise sources
      in an industrial system

Editor's Notes

  • #11 Unlike traditional IPC, smart fan control function is applied to Advantech quiet system. CPU and system fans are managed by hardware design and BIOS setting. While the smart fan control function in BIOS setting is enabled, rotational speed of fan can increase or decrease depending on CPU temperature. CPU temperature down, fan speed down; CPU temperature up, fan speed up. Advantech quiet system already developed and set the smart fan control as the default function.
  • #18 This is quiet system roadmap. The chassis and motherboards in the ordering information table in the previous slide are ready for order now. Other than that, more chassis will be set, and all new SBCs and ATX motherboards will be supporting smart fan control as default design.
