Agwest
is
pleased
to
announce
the

–
Dr.
Alison
Vaughan.
Alison
will
be
working
as
an
Extension

-‐
helping
you
directly
with
on-‐farm
consulting
and
indirectly
with
Agwest’s
in-‐house

Alison
originally
hails
from
the
Isle
of
Skye,
Scotland,
where
she
grew
up
working
with
the
family’s
herd
of
hill
sheep,
young
horses
and
highland
cattle.
She
first
came
to
Canada
to
complete
a
5-‐month
project
examining
cross
sucking
in
dairy
calves
at
the
UBC
Dairy
Education
and
Research
Centre,
as
part
of
her
MSc
degree
with
the
University
of
Edinburgh.
Alison
then
moved
to
the
University
of
Saskatchewan
to
pursue
a
PhD,
which
explored
practical
applications
for
the
learning
abilities
of
cattle.
After
defending
her
PhD
in
December
2014,
Alison
spent
the
following
two
years
as
a
post
doctoral
researcher
with
UBC’s
Animal
Welfare
Program,
where
her
research
focussed
on
exploring
calves’
learning
and
using
data
from
a
cross-‐Canada
cluster
project
to
identify
factors
associated
with
cleanliness
and
cow
comfort.
Alison’s
main
research
interests
include
benchmarking,
cow
comfort
and
calf
management.
Within
her
role
at
Agwest
Veterinary
Group,
Alison
will
be
providing
benchmarking
services
and
finding
management
solutions
to
help
your
cows
achieve
their
potential.
Outside
of
her
work
with
Agwest
she
spends
her
time
rock
climbing
and
hiking
in
the
Fraser
Valley
and
training
dogs
with
behavioural
problems.
Agwest
continues
to
be
a
collaborative
group
of
professionals
with
the
knowledge,
experience,
expertise,
and
resources
to
effectively
assist
our
clients
with
all
aspects
of
their
farms.
